Huli Villager
Tari, PNG

The Huli are a warlike people and subsistence farmers. They live in garden settlements and the lands are interconnected with great trenches which have been used to secretly move during tribal warfare. Scattered amongst the gardens, coffins can be seen elevated on covered platforms. Pigs are valued as highly as the women and are free to eat any of the crops they desire. The women tend to the pigs, taking them for walks and even suckling them when they are young.

Papua New Guinea

PNG is a snapshot in time, with the tribes of the Highlands seeing outsiders for the first time in 1930. Headhunting and cannibalism are traditional practices that were only recently subdued through heavy missionary influence. The rugged terrain maintained tribal isolation resulting in 800 unique languages and cultures. The few travelers who visit this amazing country are rewarded with an adventure of a lifetime.
