War Cry
Goroka Singsing, PNG

The annual Goroka singsing is held in honor of PNG obtaining independence from Australia in 1975. This is a multi-day cultural event that should not be missed. Over thirty tribes gather each day to bring honor to themselves and their tribe through their unique costume and dance. This man is from Goroka in the Eastern Highlands Province of PNG. The chants and war cries, accompanied by stomping feet, beating drums, and weapon-waiving are incredible to witness.

Papua New Guinea

PNG is a snapshot in time, with the tribes of the Highlands seeing outsiders for the first time in 1930. Headhunting and cannibalism are traditional practices that were only recently subdued through heavy missionary influence. The rugged terrain maintained tribal isolation resulting in 800 unique languages and cultures. The few travelers who visit this amazing country are rewarded with an adventure of a lifetime.
